Roman Catholic crucifix

Symbol of Christ's sacrifice

At around the age of seven, Catholic boys and girls receive holy communion for the first time. To mark this important religious event, they are given a crucifix.

This Roman Catholic cross primarily symbolises Christ’s sacrifice. Protestants prefer the empty cross, which stands for the resurrection. After years of secularisation, trendy home furnishing stores are now full of images of the Madonna, household altars and rosaries. Those on a spiritual quest without any religious affiliation and non-believers alike are welcoming the Catholic cross back into their everyday environment.
